Mini-Series: Stoicism For The Modern World

This series takes three ordinary parts of daily life—social media, waiting, and consumption—and examines them through the lens of Stoic philosophy. Each post stands on its own, but together they form a progression: from how we seek approval, to how we handle disruption, to how we define enough.

Part I: The Illusion of Approval

Social media magnifies our hunger for validation, trapping us in endless comparison. Stoicism teaches that true worth cannot come from likes or followers, but from aligning our actions with our values.

The takeaway: look inward for approval, not outward.

Part II: Waiting As A Teacher

Delays and inconveniences are inevitable. What matters is not the line at the coffee shop or the traffic on the highway, but the state of our mind while we wait.

The takeaway: treat waiting as practice for life’s greater trials.

Part III: The Burden Of Excess

We are told that more is always better. The Stoics remind us that peace often comes from needing less. To let go of excess—whether possessions or distractions—is to reclaim freedom.

The takeaway: subtract what enslaves you, and find strength in simplicity.

Come along as we dive into the way Stoics would view our world. Each read is quick but thought provoking. Let me know if you like it, I’ll probably do more like this.
